Australia Day 2019

Council has recently developed 2 new initiatives to encourage more nominations for our Australia Day Awards.
 
Firstly, there is now a dedicated page on the Council website where you can complete a form online!
 
Throughout the year, events and situations happen when you think, “that person deserves to be nominated for Australia Day”.  However by the time nominations are called, the event has dimmed and deserving people are forgotten.
 
Now you can hop online and complete that nomination!
 
Secondly, Council has changed the criteria for nomination to allow someone who lives outside the Tenterfield Shire but has done wonderful things within the Shire, to be eligible for nomination.
 
“We know that along our borders there are many people who live outside the Shire but work and have undertakings in our Shire”, Mayor Peter Petty said.  “Council has recognized this and has expanded the criteria to allow them to be nominated.”
 
The following Awards are now open for nomination:
 
Citizen of the Year
Aims to recognise outstanding achievement during the past year and/or contribution to the local community over a number of years.   To be eligible, the person must be 26 years or older on 26 January 2019.
 
Young Citizen Award
Aims to recognise outstanding achievement during the past year and/or contribution to the local community over a number of years.   To be eligible, the person must be under 26 years of age on 26 January 2019.
 
Sports Person of the Year Award
For contribution to Sport in the Shire area.  The nominee’s approach and efforts to advance in their chosen activity and their performance over the past year are considered.  To be eligible, the person must be 26 years or older on 26 January 2019. 
 
Young Sports Person of the Year Award
For contribution to Sport in the Shire area.  The nominee’s approach and efforts to advance in their chosen activity and their performance over the past year are considered.  To be eligible, the person must be under 26 years of age on 26 January 2019.
 
Emergency Services Volunteer Award
Aims to recognise outstanding services of volunteers in emergency service organisations.   Voluntary members of emergency service organisations of all ages are eligible.
 
Community Event of the Year Award
Presented to the person/group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the past year.  Community groups who raise funds are eligible.
 
For those who would rather make their nomination in hard copy, a form is available to download on our website, or call Noelene Hyde on (02) 6736 6000 to have one mailed out to you.  Or just call in to the Council Office and pick one up!
 
Nominations for Australia Day 2019 will close at 5.00 pm on Monday, 17 December 2018.
