Local artists are invited to submit entries for the prestigious Basil Sellers Art Prize, which offers a prize pool of more than $25,000.
The $20,000 major prize winner’s work is acquired by philanthropist and businessman Basil Sellers and placed in his extensive art collection.
Entries can include 2D works of any medium, excluding photography and digital media. There is no theme but works must have been created in the past 12 months.
The exhibition’s opening in February 2019 will coincide with the opening of the new Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre in Moruya, NSW.
Known primarily for his business acumen and sporting interests, Mr Sellers has been a collector of fine art all his life and has given ongoing support to the Eurobodalla arts community. His help extended to a very generous donation for the construction of the new exhibition centre.
The Basil Sellers Art Prize was established as a biennial event for artists in the Eurobodalla Shire in 2004. In 2010 the exhibition extended its reach to include entries from the Bega Valley, Cooma Monaro, Bombala and Snowy River shires.
It has since been established as one of the region’s most prestigious art events, and this year has been expanded to include artists living across NSW and the ACT for the first time.
