Council’s increases to fees and charges are to aid in ensuring the community can continue to deal with the Shire’s waste in a sustainable way. Sustainability of Council’s waste requires balancing the operations to be cost neutral for the community. To provide this neutral cost a review of tonnage rates as well as curb side collection costs need to be compatible.
Costs for waste due to increasing unavailability to re-process recyclables from South East Asia and China’s National Sword Policy continues to impact on the Shire. The impacts directly continue to increase the cost burden for the Shire as well as nationally.
