Australian citizenship is an important step in your migration story. Becoming an Australian citizen means that you are making an ongoing commitment to Australia and all that this country stands for. It is also the beginning of your formal membership of the Australian community. It is the step that will enable you to say ‘I am Australian’.
CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS
Becoming a citizen by conferral is a common way to become an Australian citizen. You need to be a permanent resident and meet certain criteria before you can apply.

Alternatively, phone enquires can be directed to the Department of Home Affairs on 131 880.
Once your application has been assessed and approved by the Department of Home Affairs – Immigration and Citizenship, you will receive correspondence from the Department advising you that your application was successful. The Department of Homes Affairs will then finalise your paperwork, order your Certificate and provide Council with a list of names to include in the next ceremony.
Once this information is received, an invitation will be sent to you to by Council to attend the next citizenship ceremony.
CITIZENSHIP CEREMONY DRESS CODE
Conferees at citizenship ceremonies are encouraged to wear formal / smart casual clothing, or traditional cultural dress which reflects the significance of the occasion.
This Dress Code is a requirement of the Australian Government’s Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code.
