The Tenterfield Shire Council Code of Conduct sets the minimum requirements of behaviour for council officials in carrying out their functions.  It incorporates the provisions contained in the Model Code of Conduct referred to in the Local Government Act.

The Code of Conduct has been developed to assist council officials to:

  • understand the standards of conduct that are expected of them.
  • enable them to fulfil their statutory duty to act honestly and exercise a resonable degree of care and diligence.
  • act in a way that enhances public confidence in the integrity of local government.

The Code is supported by a set of guidelines which provide information and identify key topics, relevant principles and key legislation underlining the provisions.  They provide examples and further reference material on matters covered in the Code.  The guidelines are provided in the document named Guidelines for the Code of Conduct.
