1.           Authorising Section of the Local Government Act:

The Tenterfield Shire Anzac Centenary Steering Committee has been established by Council under Section 355 of the Local Government Act.

 

2.           Purpose:

The purpose of the Tenterfield Shire Anzac Centenary Steering Committee is to provide advice and inform the Tenterfield Shire Council on commemorative and ceremonial activities for the Anzac Centenary for the period 2014-2018.

 

3.           Role:

Therefore Council has identified that the principal strategies of the Tenterfield Shire Anzac Centenary Steering Committee to be, but not limited to the following:

  1. Provide strategic advice to assist and ensure locally run events are managed successively on the ground.
  2. Advise how to give young people of Tenterfield Shire a chance to have input into the development of the program to ensure the Centenary connects with our younger generation.
  3. Advise how to best incorporate the Centenary in the Tenterfield Shire schools’ curriculum and identifying education opportunities for primary and secondary school students.
  4. Advise the Tenterfield Shire Council on opportunities for business participation for the Anzac Centenary, including potential sponsorship, philanthropy, profit and nonprofit ventures, and partnerships with federal and state governments.
  5. Encourage, where necessary, the refurbishment of War Memorials and War Graves to ensure individual and collective memorials to those veterans who are entitled to official commemoration in Tenterfield, are maintained to a high standard in the lead up to the Centenary.
