Tenterfield Dam was the site for the release of an estimated 300 large Rainbow Trout prior to the end of last year.
Chief Executive, Daryl Buckingham was on site, together with Council staff, Peter Selby and Paul Sheather (Department of Primary Industries) to release the fish. The release was fully funded by Oz Fish and kindly co-ordinated by local Michael Davey from Oz Fish, with the Rainbow Trout originating from the Ebor Hatchery.
Chief Executive Daryl Buckingham commented that ‘This is a fantastic occasion for the Tenterfield community, as re-stocking of the Tenterfield Dam will aid in the species recovery.”
He went on to explain that “It is hoped the re-stocking of the Dam will provide a resource into the future, which will aid in Tourism and Economic growth for the Shire’.”
The new Water Filtration Plant when constructed (due for completion late 2022), will allow Council to open the Dam for non-motorised recreation and allow the community and tourists a recreational precinct in the future. Council has recently signed Funding Agreements with the Recreational Fishing Trust through the Department of Primary Industries for a ‘Disabled Access – Recreational Pontoon” to be installed at the Tenterfield Dam in the near future.
