Preserving Tenterfield's History: Jan Friar and Tony Pitkin Present World War I Register
World War I Register presented to Tenterfield Shire Council will preserve the stories of local service men and women for generations to come.
Council is honoured to receive the Tenterfield Shire World War I Register, a significant local history publication documenting the men and women who were born, enlisted or died within the Shire during the First World War.
The booklet was presented to Mayor Bronwyn Petrie on behalf of Tenterfield Shire Council, with the publication set to become an important historical resource for the community and future generations.
The project has been compiled through the dedication and extensive research of Jan Friar and Tony Pitkin, whose commitment has resulted in a comprehensive record preserving the stories and service of local people connected to the First World War.
Council acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of Jan Friar and Tony Pitkin in preserving this important part of Tenterfield Shire's history and thanks them for their generous gift to the community.
Mayor Petrie would also like to acknowledge Jan Friar and Tony Pitkin for their combined great effort and dedication into the work on this register.
The register was originally presented as a draft booklet to Council following ANZAC Day 2026, with the intention that it become an ongoing research resource that can continue to be updated as new information comes to light.
