Registration Reform for Rural Vehicles & Fuel Security
There is growing momentum at both State and local government levels to address cost pressures and fuel supply challenges facing regional communities.
A proposal has recently been introduced to the NSW Parliament aimed at reducing vehicle registration costs for rural drivers. The reform recognises that in regional areas, larger vehicles are often a necessity for safety and access, not a choice or luxury.
At the same time, Local Government NSW is advocating to ensure councils are prioritised in fuel supply during periods of disruption. This is critical to maintaining essential services such as waste collection, water and sewer, road maintenance, and transport - services that our community relies on every day.
Together, these actions reflect a broader push to ensure regional communities are not disproportionately impacted by rising costs and supply challenges.
While these matters sit with State and national decision-makers, Council will continue to monitor these matters and advocate for outcomes that support our community.
