Wild dog control program underway
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has commenced an aerial and ground baiting program for wild dog control across a number of national parks and reserves in the region.
The program includes the use of 1080 meat baits, which pose a high risk to domestic dogs.
The program will run until 22 November 2026.
Ground baiting only
Ground baiting is being undertaken in the following reserves:
- Bald Rock National Park
- Basket Swamp National Park
- Bluff River Nature Reserve
- Bolivia Hill Nature Reserve
- Boonoo Boonoo National Park
- Butterleaf National Park
- Butterleaf State Conservation Area
- Capoompeta National Park
- Cathedral Rock National Park
- Maryland National Park
- Warra National Park
Aerial and ground baiting
Both aerial and ground baiting are being undertaken in:
- Washpool National Park
- Washpool State Conservation Area
- Gibraltar Range National Park
- Barool National Park
- Nymboida National Park
- Guy Fawkes River Nature Reserve
- Guy Fawkes River National Park
⚠️ Visiting affected areas
If you are visiting affected reserves:
- Keep pet and working dogs under control and away from baiting areas at all times.
- Follow all warning signs at reserve entry points.
- Take extra care when walking dogs near affected areas.
The program is being undertaken as part of NPWS's annual pest animal control program, in cooperation with local Wild Dog Associations and Northern Tablelands Local Land Services.
